It took 9 years of lobbying by a small group of die-hard mountain bikers and local bike store owner Mary Jane Mark of Mack Cycle & Fitness to get permission from the City of Miami to start the conversion.
With a City of Miami grant, Bernard "Frenchy"Riviere designed and managed the building of the trails. A $40,000 donation by Mack Cycle funded procurement of heavy equipment and operators.
Volunteers worked thousands of hours to complete over 4 miles of trails in only 3 months!
Today, the Virginia Key Trails boast more than 7.5 miles of challenging & scenic trails. Sitting 36 feet above Biscayne Bay, it is one of the most beautiful place to ride in Miami.
The trails are open to the public 7 days a week.. all levels of riders from beginners to experts can enjoy this treasure!
